I took all but one of my Helios-103's and Menopta's apart, and blackened the aperture blades using a Sharpe.

Untreated Lens, F4, set so the sun shines directly into the lens: <p>

Treated Lens in strong Backlit Situation, but no Direct Sunlight in lens, No shade,
The contrast is better in the treated lens, not as much flare.
I scanned all three shots as one negative strip, no Photoshop. This is as close as showing you what I see as i can think of.
