Posts: 90 11/27/07 10:02:14	Tags : None Since my question regarding posting photos taken using third-party lenses didn't get even a single reply, I'll pose a philosophical question that may get me the answer I was looking for. What is the minimum equipment requirement to claim a photo was taken with Nikon equipment? 1)Nikon body and lens, 2) Nikon body and third party lens, 3) Nikon lens with mount modified for use on another brand body. Or put another way, which is more important, the body or the lens?

Posts: 249 11/27/07 14:09:59	Here is my thought. Nippon Kogaku was an optical company,nikon's heritage is optics. In my opinion, Nikkors have more Nikon behind them than Nikon cameras do! But, I am not picky. I like to see all three situations discussed. I am pretty sure most agree that the lens is more important than the camera body. Kiu

But I was especially interested in the question of posting images here that were shot with third-party lenses on Nikon bodies. A lot of my street photography is done with a Samyang 18~28, and Tamron 35~105 zooms, and while I'd like to post many of the photos shot with them, I won't if that is somehow construed as "cheating" or unacceptable on a themed site such as this, or whatever by the purists (despite the use of CV lenses on Nikon rangefinders that no one seems to question). Hence my original unanswered thread as well as this second one, in an effort to get some feedback.

Posts: 77 11/28/07 02:20:18	The fisheye photos I posted in another thread were taken with a Tokina fisheye zoom on a D70 I don't have a problem if either the body or the lens used was a Nikon. Though I think we're getting into a grey area if, for example, the body was an S-mount Bessa R2S and the lens was an S-mount Voigtlander, or the body was an F-mount Kenko and the lens was an F-mount Sigma or something. But hey, if you take a great photo with a combo like that, I'd like to see it

Posts: 90 11/28/07 10:15:36	Jon, I agree, however I'd be inclined to draw the line at either the bodies or lenses being Nikon, if the Forum is to retain a Nikon theme. Otherwise it simply becomes another generic photo forum. Having said that, I've got lots of shots taken with my Nikon cameras and Samyang/Tokina/Tamron/Sigma/Vivitar lenses over the last thirty years that I'd love to post. Posts: 57 11/29/07 05:36:44	I don't have a problem necessarily with an aftermarket lens on an aftermarket body, so long as it's part of, or interchangeable with, the Nikon system. That's one of the things I like about Nikon -- it borrows from other systems but refines them; it is influential enough that aftermarket manufacturers want to contribute to the system; and it remains interchangeable over decades. An R2S with a VC-S lens is part of the Nikon RF legacy. A Russian Nikon F-mount Kiev SLR with a Vivitar 35-85/2.8 is, in my philosophical understanding, part of the broader Nikon community because they chose to make products in the Nikon format.
