It's amazing to see FM/FE series bodies being sold for almost nothing these days. In my opinion, these are some of the best cameras ever made. FE2 is
probably my all time favourite (film) camera. Robust, reliable, perfect size and weight (unlike many people, I've never really liked the F3).
Just for the record, the FM3a is even "better" (at least on paper, I've never tried one), but for obvious reasons it's also a lot more
expensive.
Thinking about it, I'll probably get a couple of more FM/FE bodies. The value for money is hard to beat.

My first Nikon was a Nikkormat Ftn but then I quickly changed to the FM2 which has been with me since 1986. Still working great and never failed my needs. I actually got a second one cheap about a year ago when I found a mint FM2n for approx. 50 USD at a "sell-out". There are still many users of FM2´s out there. I started a group for FM-camreas at Flickr and without making any "pr" what so ever I have had close to 500 members and many of them regularly positing photos. I have a FE2 also but have only shot a few rolls with it - cannot tell why. I would say that 90% of all my SLR shooting has been with the FM2 so I am glad so hear that you like it! Maybe it is the manual touch of the FM2 that has over the last few years drawn me more and more into the Nikon rangefinder cameras which are right now used more than the FM2 and D80 together !? By the way - Jarle as a name probably means you live in Norway? I am in Stockholm, Sweden - where in Norway do you live ? Jon |

Hi Jon,
I've always preferred the FE/2's needle meter over the FM/2's LED indicators. Other than that, they're both equal in my book. The fully mechanical operation of the FM/2 is a nice feature, but I've never considered it very important (for me, anyway). The battery in my FE2's will last forever, even under Nordic winter conditions. Never had any issues :-) And you're right about Norway. I'm from Stavanger, on the south-west coast. Jarle |

For me it's the FA. I've owned the FE, FE-2, and shot with the FM, FM-2, and now one of my three SLR street bodies is a motorized FA.
Except for the batteryless operation of the FM et al series of cameras, I believe the FA has them beat by a country mile. It was the F3 Lite, and had it been beefed up to the F3's industrial-grade specs, it would have been everything the F3 was supposed to be but wasn't.

I agree that the FA is very nice, but personally I prefer the FE/FM bodies.
Here's a couple of mine (both in active use these days). FM with 35mm f/2.8 and FE2 with 20mm f/2.8.
