What's the longest lens you have?

What's the longest lens you want?

I have been craving a 500mm lately

Picture borrowed from this ebay listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230214120398

I don't have the money to buy one, but, I do have a 200-600mm amd a 50-300mm, first one in Ai mount and second one in Ais.

I use to have a VR 80-400mm but sold that to a friend.

Do I get rid of some of my stuff to buy one of these beasts?

Or may...

My favorite long lenses are the NK 300mm F4.5 Nikkor-H that I had factory AI'd a long time ago. Much lighter than the F2.8, I can hand hold it and it is
fine wide-open. I had the ED-IF AI lens, did not see much difference in the image quality so I sold it. I also use the 500/8 Reflex-Nikkor. You can steady it
with a mono-pod, or use hand-held with higher-speed film. Both suit bird-watching and air-shows quite well. Both are near mint, and I'm coming up on owning
them for 30 years. I...

Is this TOO cheap? 3 day auction, the seller has no feedback for selling! Only buying.

May be I can have Robert confirm it? It is in Toroto, Canada.

Kiu,
If you get $500-$1,000 for the lens you won't be able to get a super-fast telephoto, or barely even one that's just merely fast.
To me, the only super-fast telephoto is the Nikkor 300 f2, and they go for about $10,000 the last time I saw one.

I did not pay that much for that lens!

If memory serves me right, I paid less than $600. I hunted a long time to get it though, got it off ebay about 5 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I would not hesitate to sell it, just like I did VR 80-400

When I bought the VR 80-400, from KEH I might add, I traded a few items to get it.

Now, you gave me the idea of checking the price of the 200-600....may be a fast super telephoto is close to reality, after...

Kiu,
This is the part about collecting that I don't understand. You've obviously paid a few dollars to get the 200~600 and you now complain that it is f9.5,
and so is useless as a practical lens. So why keep it? To me it would be simpler to sell it and use the money to get something you can use to take photos with.

I won't bother to post a photo of it along with the Steamer Trunk case it resides in, because I'm certain everyone knows what they both look like.
